Richard Alan "Dick" Zimmer (born August 16, 1944 in Newark , New Jersey ) is an American politician . Between 1991 and 1997 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dick Zimmer attended Yale University until 1966 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1969, he began working in this profession in New York City . In 1975 he moved his residence and practice to New Brunswick . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1982 and 1987 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly ; from 1987 to 1991 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 1990 congressional elections , Zimmer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Jim Courter on January 3, 1991 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1997 . There he was on the Committee on Ways and Means , the Science Committee and the Committee on Government Operations .

In 1996 Zimmer renounced another candidacy for the US House of Representatives. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for the US Senate this year and again in 2008 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked as a lawyer for a Princeton law firm until 2001 . Since 2001 he has worked as a consultant for the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in the federal capital Washington. Since March 11, 2010, Dick Zimmer has been chairman of the New Jersey Privatization Commission.
