Marshall Van Winkle

Marshall Van Winkle (born September 28, 1869 in Jersey City , New Jersey , †  May 10, 1957 in Oceanport , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Marshall Van Winkle was a great-nephew of US Senator Peter G. Van Winkle (1808–1872) from West Virginia . He attended the public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1890, he began to work in Hoboken in this profession. In 1895 he became an advisor to the District Tax Commission. He then served as the Assistant Attorney in Hudson County . He held this office again between 1902 and 1905.

Van Winkle also embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1900 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives. Four years later he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Allan Benny on March 4, 1905 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1906, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1907 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Van Winkle practiced again as a lawyer in Jersey City. Between 1933 and 1939 he was also a lawyer; he also wrote some legal treatises. Marshall van Winkle died in Oceanport on May 10, 1957.
