geography
The small southern French village with 51 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail at an altitude of 150 to 517 meters on the slope of a limestone rock.
The community is located on the department road D90a, a very narrow, winding road that in the West near the village of Lafare climb begins, then the mountain at La Roque-Alric and to the east in Le Barroux ends. The street, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Provence , allows an impressive view of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
The climate is Mediterranean, but it can get fresh as soon as the mistral blows.
history
There are no traces from prehistoric times and antiquity . La Roque-Alric was first mentioned in 1264, when the fief of the Agoult family passed to Latil II, de Mormoiron , lord of Modena .
The Modena-Mormoiron ( Modène-Mormoiron ) held the fief until the 15th century, then it went by marriage to the lords of Venasque and Raymond. The latter were a well-known noble family in the Comtat Venaissin (County of Venaissin). In 1566 Truffemont de Raymond sold half of it to Helen des Isnards , lord of Malaucène , and bequeathed the other part to his daughter Antoinette, wife of Jean de Chaza . The De Chaza couple sold their share to François de Raffelis in 1616 .
In 1720, Provence was hit by the last wave of the plague in Western Europe. The epidemic also hit the Comtat Venaissin, with La Roque-Alric being on the northernmost limit of the spread area.
