Sault is a French commune in the department of Vaucluse in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . The municipality has 1381 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It belongs to the canton of Pernes-les-Fontaines in the Carpentras arrondissement .
geography
Sault is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Mont Ventoux , the highest mountain in the Provencal Pre-Alps . The municipality is located in the Pays de Sault, 41 kilometers east of Carpentras and 28 kilometers north of Apt . The municipality is affected by the Nesque rivers and its tributary Croc . The village is located on a hill that reaches a height of 766 meters. Due to its location, it is the starting point for various natural attractions: In addition to Mont Ventoux, the Gorges de la Nesque , the Toulourenctal and the Plateau d'Albion are nearby .

Attractions
- Bourg : The unique shops from the beginning of the 20th century and the soustés (covered passages) add greatly to the charm of the city center. The Transfiguration Church is largely Romanesque . The three chapels that open onto the choir and the west portal date from the 14th century. The Romanesque style bell tower dates from 1624. The building was expanded in the 19th century.
- Museum : Founded in 1859 by a couple of passionate amateurs, it combines natural history , paleontology , archeology and numismatics with tools from local agriculture , a series of portraits by Évariste Bernardi de Valernes and an Egyptian collection.
