Mondragon is a French town with 3792 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Vaucluse department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of Bollène in the Arrondissement of Carpentras .
geography
Mondragon is located in Tricastin in Provence on the A 7 autoroute between Bollène in the north and Mornas in the south, 97 kilometers northeast of Montpellier and 14 kilometers northwest of Orange . The Rhône and the Lez , a tributary of the Rhône, flow through the municipality. The city lies on the Canal de Donzère-Mondragon , a shipping canal that shortens a loop of the Rhône and joins the river south of the city. The hamlet of Derboux belongs to Mondragon. Neighboring municipalities of Mondragon are Lamotte-du-Rhône in the south-west, Bollène in the north-west, Mornas in the south-east and Saint-Étienne-des-Sorts in the south-west. The municipality covers 4065 hectares, the mean height is 126 meters above sea level , the Mairie stands at a height of 50 meters.

history
In the district of Saint-Jean, which lies between the railway line and the canal, a Gallo-Roman villa was discovered in which, among other things, a statue was found depicting a Gallic warrior. It is the stone museum Musée Calvet of Avignon issued.
Mondragon was first mentioned in 1137 as Mons Draconis ( Latin for "mountain of the dragon").

Attractions
The Romanesque cemetery chapel Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens in Derboux was built towards the end of the 12th century. Inside there is a fresco from the beginning of the 13th century depicting the Virgin Mary . The chapel was rebuilt in the 19th century. It is now owned by the municipality and was classified as a Monument historique ('historical monument') in 1997 .
The Hôtel de Suze dates from the 16th century. It is privately owned and was entered in the supplementary list of the Monuments historiques in 1949 .
economy
The image of the community is shaped by vineyards and orchards. An important line of business for the inhabitants, called Mondragonnais, is viticulture . There is a local winemaker cooperative.
In the municipality, the controlled designations of origin (AOC) apply to olive oil (Huile d'olive de Provence) , wines from the Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages wine-growing regions and Protected Geographical Indications (IGP) for poultry (Volailles de la Drôme) , honey (Miel de Provence) and red , white and rosé wines called Méditerranée and Vaucluse .
