history
The area of Roaix has been populated since the Neolithic . The Neolithic people living here at that time buried the dead at a place where the Templars established a commandery thousands of years later . After the colonization by the Vocontier , the Romans stayed here for four centuries . Before the Templars settled, Roaix was a simple estate owned by the Bishop of Vaison . The Commandery was created in 1138 shortly after Richerenches was founded. The Bishop of Vaison approved the building of a church and a cemetery. The Commandery Roaix, to which Villedieu was also affiliated, was considered one of the most important commanderies in the region. After the dissolution of the Knights Templar Roaix became the property of the Papal States over and was up to the annexation of the Comtat manages to France in 1791 by several small landowners (including the family De Vaes).

Attractions
The Roaix Hypogeum (also Roaix Grotto) is a cave carved into the rock.
The new parish church is located in the village, near the castle and replaced an older building in 1735. The special thing about the church is that it was built directly on the ground without a foundation and that, unlike other churches, its apse does not face east, but west.
The castle was probably built in the twelfth century . Several landlords such as the De Vaes family have lived here since the Middle Ages and the Revolution. The building, renovated in 1936, is now privately owned and is surrounded by a magnificent ornamental park .
The remains of the Templars are on the road to Villedieu, far from the village in the Crottes district . The entire complex was built on a former cult site. Only the Templar chapel with the name Notre-Dame-des-Crottes , after the Greek word κρύπτη , which means "grotto", is preserved. The chapel has a simple one-bay nave and an apse , the cornice of which is decorated with carved corbels . The beautiful chapel was abandoned in favor of the current parish church in the village of Roaix.
Not far away is the old Templar house with several underground arched caves. In the courtyard of the house there is a fountain in front of the one altar of marble stands, with leaves and a dove. The altar dates back to the sixth century .
A chapel for Saint-Roch was built on the hill of Hautes-Granges after the plague epidemic of 1629 . Some remains of the water tower built in 1932 and almost completely destroyed are still there.
