Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Egloffstein (born May 18, 1824 in Altdorf ; † 1898 ) was a topographical draftsman, map painter and engraver from the Franconian noble family Egloffstein .

Life

Before 1853, Friedrich von Egloffstein emigrated to the USA for research purposes , where he took part in various expeditions . In 1858 he was on the expedition that discovered the Colorado River and in which Balduin Möllhausen also took part. Egloffstein's drawings were published in the respective expedition reports.

Friedrich von Egloffstein made a name for himself as a topography draftsman and map painter, but was also active as a draftsman and engraver . Until 1865 he was a soldier in the Civil War . He then lived in New York until 1873 , where he took part in the further development of the halftone process in engraving technology.
