Althen-des-Paluds is a French commune with 2,823 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Vaucluse and the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
history
The name of the city is reminiscent of Jean Althen , who came to Avignon in 1756 to gain his first experience of growing madder . In the 1830s, the village flourished thanks to the madder, which gave it independence from Monteux .
