Attractions

The Château de Sade , built by Jean-Baptiste de Sade in 1634 , was used as a stage for a number of plays. The large hall of the old town hall is reached via the Porte de Carpentras . In the Grand Rue , the Hôtel de Valette stands out with its Renaissance portal and a statue niche. In the square of the Saint-Nazaire-et-Saint-Celse church there is a round tower, the remnant of a feudal castle. After the gallery collapsed in 1801, the church was rebuilt, with only its bell tower, nave and portal from the 14th century remaining.

museum

The community museum is housed in the Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs and deals with rural life in all its aspects. On the ceiling, paintings by the painter Solomon from 1697 illustrate the life of the Virgin Mary . A community oven from the 14th century was reinstalled in the museum's courtyard in 1980.

graveyard
Chapel Notre-Dame-de-Pareloup with cemetery

The cemetery houses the Romanesque chapel Notre-Dame-de-Pareloup , which was the original parish church. This name was given to her in the 15th century to reassure residents who feared the wolves would come and devour the corpses of the dead. The enclosure is lined with 64 sarcophagi from the 5th and 6th centuries, which were discovered in various necropolises.

Notre-Dame-la-Brune chapel

The chapel was rebuilt in the 18th century on the site where it had been 300 years earlier. It contains a statue of the Black Madonna and some ex-votos . The chapel is adjacent to the chemin Mercardier , which follows the course of an old Gallo-Roman road.

Càrri de Mazan
Actor from 1898

Every ten or twenty years in July, the village of Càrri de Mazan , a large traditional festival, is held. Since 1725, the people of Mazan have made fun of the old lords and consuls with a great pageant , who angered the common people with high taxes and an excessive lifestyle. The highlight of the parade is Lou Càrri , the man's carriage, drawn by more than twenty horses . The last parade with 100 horses, 300 performers and over 10,000 spectators took place on July 18, 2010.
