Amos Clark

Amos Clark Jr. (born November 8, 1828 in New York City , †  October 31, 1912 in Boston , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Amos Clark did business in his hometown of New York City but lived in the city of Elizabeth , New Jersey. There he also worked in the real estate business. He also began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1865 and 1866, Clark served on Elizabeth City Council; from 1866 to 1869 he was a member of the New Jersey Senate .

In the congressional election of 1872 , Clark was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded John T. Bird on March 4, 1873 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Miles Ross in 1874 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1875 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Clark moved to Norfolk County , Massachusetts. He continued to pursue his business interests in Elizabeth. Amos Clark died in Boston on October 31, 1912 and was buried in Elizabeth.
