Robert Ernest "Rob" Andrews (born August 4, 1957 in Camden , New Jersey ) is an American politician . From 1990 to 2014 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rob Andrews attended Triton High School in Runnemede until 1975 . He then studied political science at Bucknell University in Lewisburg ( Pennsylvania ) until 1979 . This was followed by a law degree at Cornell Law School in Ithaca ( New York ) until 1982 . Between 1986 and 1990 he was a freeholder on the Camden County county council and chaired it since 1988. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

Following the resignation of MP James Florio , who had been elected Governor of New Jersey, Andrews was elected as his successor to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , at the due by-election for the first seat of New Jersey , where he served on June 6. November 1990 took up his new mandate. Since he was confirmed in all subsequent elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his resignation on February 18, 2014. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . In 2008 he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate election , which again went to Frank Lautenberg . Most recently, he was a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Education and Labor Committee and four sub-committees. He was one of 81 Democratic MPs who voted for the Iraq war in 2002. He resigned on the grounds that he wanted to join a law firm in Philadelphia ; however, at this point in time, the ethics committee was already investigating him because he was alleged to have used campaign funds for private purposes. A Democrat, Donald Norcross , was elected to succeed him.

Rob Andrews is married and has two daughters.
