Bernard James Dwyer (born January 24, 1921 in Perth Amboy , New Jersey , † October 31, 1998 in Metuchen , New Jersey) was an American politician .

Bernard Dwyer attended Rutgers University in Newark . From 1940 to 1945 he served in the United States Navy . He then worked as an insurance broker and belonged from 1958 to 1969 the city council of Edison ( Edison Township Council ) to. Between 1969 and 1973 Dwyer finally held the office of mayor of the city. From 1974 to 1980 he was a Senator in the New Jersey Senate before he was elected a Democrat in the 97th Congress and the following five conventions. There Dwyer represented in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1981 to January 3, 1993, first the 15th and later the sixth electoral district of the state of New Jersey.

Dwyer died on October 31, 1998 and was buried in St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia .
