Donald W. Norcross (born December 13, 1958 in Camden , New Jersey ) is an American politician . Since November 2014, he has represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Donald Norcross attended Pennsauken High School in New Jersey. In 1979 he graduated from Camden County College , where he studied criminalistics. But later he worked in the electrical industry, where he was involved in the trade union movement. He was President of the Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO Central Labor Council for 16 years . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 2010 he became a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . In the same year he moved to the State Senate , to which he was a member until 2014.

In the 2014 congressional election , Norcross was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in New Jersey's first constituency , replacing Rob Andrews , who had resigned on February 18, 2014. The election on November 4, 2014 in this district was also the by-election for the remainder of Andrews' term until January 3, 2015. Therefore, Norcross was able to take up his mandate immediately after his election victory over Republican Garry Cobb . For the Congressional elections in 2016 and in the congressional elections in 2018 he was re-elected.
