Sara Blakely (born February 27, 1971 in Clearwater , Florida ) is an American entrepreneur , founder and CEO of Spanx Inc.

Life

Blakely is the daughter of an artist and a lawyer . Born and raised in Clearwater , Florida , she graduated from Clearwater High School. She then enrolled at Florida State University (FSU) and earned a degree in communications . She became a member of the Delta Delta Delta student association . A failed "Law School Admission Test" led her to a temporary three-month job at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando as a number girlenter into. She then worked in sales at the Danka company, where she sold fax machines in direct marketing at the doorstep . Her sales activity was so successful that she became a national sales trainer at the age of 25.

During this time she came up with the idea of developing her own patented pantyhose collection , adapted to the hot and humid climate of Florida . This collection was sold, among others, in the shops of the luxury department store chain Neiman Marcus . She also sent a selection of her products to Oprah Winfrey's television program. In 2001 she signed a contract with QVC . In the following broadcast, she managed to sell 8,000 of her tights from the collection in six minutes.

In 2014, she was ranked 93rd in Forbes Magazine's list of the most important women in the world.

Blakely is the mother of four children and married to the rapper Jesse Itzler. Actor Matt Damon and singer Olivia Newton-John were among the guests at the wedding .
