Delta Delta Delta
Delta Delta Delta ( ΔΔΔ ), Tri Delta for short, is an international sorority student association founded on November 27, 1888, the eve of Thanksgiving at Boston University . With 136 chapters in the United States and Canada, it was the largest female fraternity in the world for a long time. In the meantime it has been overtaken by Chi Omega .
The founders of ΔΔΔ are Sarah Ida Shaw, Eleanor Dorcas Pond, Florence Isabelle Stewart and Isabel Morgan Breed. More than 186,000 female students are now assigned to the Tri Delta. In addition to the community during the studies, ΔΔΔ has made charitable initiatives its task. A children's hospital and cancer research are supported.
Tri Delta is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference .
Famous members
- Florence Eliza Allen (1876–1960), mathematician, university professor and suffragette. In 1907 she was the second woman to receive her PhD in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin .
- Farrah Fawcett (1947–2009), actress, studied at the University of Texas at Austin in the 1960s
- Katie Couric (* 1957), journalist, studied at the University of Virginia 1975–1979
