Edward F. McDonald

Edward Francis McDonald (born September 21, 1844 in Ireland , †  November 5, 1892 in Harrison , New Jersey ) was an American politician . In 1891 and 1892 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

At the age of six, Edward McDonald and his parents came to Newark , New Jersey, from his home in Ireland , where he attended public schools. In 1861 and 1862 he took part in the civil war as an infantryman in the Union Army . Then he worked as a machinist. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1874 he lived in Harrison. That year he was also elected to the New Jersey General Assembly ; from 1877 to 1881 he was chairman of the county council in Hudson County . In 1881 he became a treasurer in this district.

In 1890, McDonald was elected to the New Jersey Senate. With an interruption of one day because of an election challenge, he was able to complete two legislative terms there. He was now also active in the real estate market. In the congressional election of 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded William McAdoo on March 4, 1891 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on November 5, 1892.
