George M. Wallhauser

George Marvin Wallhauser (born February 10, 1900 in Newark , New Jersey , †  August 4, 1993 in Livingston , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1965 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Wallhauser attended public schools in his home country including Barringer High School , which he graduated from in 1918. Between 1918 and 1922, he served in the United States Navy medical service . He then continued his education in 1922 by studying at the University of Pennsylvania . From 1927 he worked for the Newark-based company United States Realty & Investment Co. , whose Vice President he became in 1940. He remained a board member until 1989. Politically, Wallhauser joined the Republican Party . Between 1946 and 1954 he was chairman of the Maplewood Planning Committee . In this place he was a councilor from 1954 to 1957.

In the 1958 congressional election , Wallhauser was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Robert Kean on January 3, 1959 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1965 . These were shaped by the events of the civil rights movement and the beginning of the Vietnam War . Wallhauser was a member of the Postal Committee and the Public Service Committee. In 1964 he declined to run again.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, George Wallhauser continued his previous activities. Between 1970 and 1975 he was a member of the New Jersey State Motorway Inspectorate, and since 1972 he has served as its chairman. He spent his old age in Maplewood and died on August 4, 1993 in Livingston at the age of 93.
