Eugene W. Leake

Eugene Walter Leake (born July 13, 1877 in Jersey City , New Jersey , †  August 23, 1959 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1909 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene Leake attended the common schools and then studied at the Phillips Academy in Andover ( Massachusetts ). After studying law at the New York Law School and being admitted to the bar in 1898, he began working in this profession in Jersey City. He later also practiced in New York City. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1906 Leake was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Marshall Van Winkle on March 4, 1907 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1908, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1909 . From 1927 to 1932 Leake was a consultant for the Adams Express Company . In 1931 he became a director of the American Railway Express Co. He was also a director at Loew's, Inc. Eugene Leake died on August 23, 1959 in New York and was buried in Paterson .
