Benjamin Bennet

Benjamin Bennet (born October 31, 1764 in Bucks County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  October 8, 1840 in Middletown , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Benjamin Bennet attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent degree in theology and his ordination as a clergyman in 1793, he began to work in Middletown for the Baptist Church . He was also active in agriculture. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1814 , Bennet was elected for the third seat of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Schureman on March 4, 1815 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1819 . After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Benjamin Bennet retired from politics and returned to farming. He died in Middletown on October 8, 1840.
