The Trinity College in Hartford , Connecticut , is a private college with about 2,250 students; it is one of the oldest colleges in the United States .
history
Trinity College was founded in 1823 under the name Washington College as the second institution in Connecticut with an episcopal orientation; It was given its current name in 1845. In 1872, the Connecticut State Capitol campus was acquired and moved into in 1878. In the early 20th century, the college expanded its range of courses to include science subjects. In 1968 the board of directors decided to accept students with an African American background, and a year later women were also allowed to study. Since 1995 the campus has been expanded, primarily with a school, a high school and counseling facilities for residents.
