Just A Bite is a 2003 Canadian animated short film directed by Christopher Hinton .

The film follows a father and two sons and their fishing experience during a stay in Abitibi : after a good night's sleep and a good breakfast, the three men set out to catch fish for the five holidaymakers. The path to the lake is lined with numerous cafes, bars, pubs and gas stations, where the three of them stop every time to eat and drink. At some point the lake is reached and a boat is taken, whereupon all three cast their fishing rod in one spot and hurry home with the first catch of mosquitoes. It follows the same drive-and-stop principle of the outward journey with excessive food stops at every opportunity. In the evening all five devotedly eat one fish and go to sleep.

Only a bite is based on a true story. The synchronization, which essentially consists of chewing noises, was carried out by Christopher Hinton, as well as Max and Paul Hinton. The film was animated by Hinton in "unmistakable [m], minimalistic graphic [m] style" in 2D and accompanied by a banjo piece by Terry Joe Rodrigues . Only one bite was premiered on January 20, 2003 at the Sundance Film Festival .
Awards
Only one bite was nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Animated Short Film ” in 2004, but it could not prevail against Harvie Krumpet . It also received an Annie and a BAFTA ( Best Animated Short Film ) nomination .
