Lake Wales is a city in Polk County in the US state of Florida with 14,225 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Lake Wales is about 20 km east of Bartow and about 70 km south of Orlando .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 14,225 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 6,715 households. The population density was 411.1 inh / km². 65.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 27.5% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 4.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 15.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 38.7% of all households lived in 28.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 65.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.40 people and the average family size was 2.92 people.
26.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 30.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 47.4% of the population were male and 52.6% were female.
The median annual income was $ 36,285, with 26.5% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 90.14% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 9.86%.
