Davenport is a city in Polk County in the US state of Florida with 2888 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Davenport is about 40 km northeast of Bartow and about 40 km southwest of Orlando .

history

Davenport was first connected to the railroad network by the South Florida Railroad in 1884.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 2888 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 1386 households. The population density was 722 inh. / Km². 73.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 10.8% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 11.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 28.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.1% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 40.0% of all households. 72.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.69 people and the average family size was 3.11 people.

24.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 29.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 47.2% of the population were male and 52.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 35,977, with 19.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 92.40% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 7.60%.

On August 15, 1997, the Davenport Historic District was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Davenport is crossed on a common route by US Highways 17 and 92 ( SR 600 ). The nearest airport is Orlando International Airport (around 60 km northeast).
