Babson Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Polk County in the US state of Florida with a population of 1,356 (as of 2010).

geography

Babson Park borders the town of Hillcrest Heights and is about 35 km east of Bartow and about 90 km south of Orlando . The CDP lies on the east bank of Crooked Lake and is crossed by Florida State Road 17 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 1356 inhabitants were distributed over 462 households. The population density was 347.7 inh / km². 73.5% of the population identified themselves as white, 18.1% as African American , 0.1% as Native American and 2.4% as Asian Americans . 3.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 8.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 23.9% of all households lived in 37.5% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 70.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.78 people and the average family size was 3.22 people.

34.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 32.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 19.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 14.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 24 years. 52.6% of the population were male and 47.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 34,420, with 11.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 93.44% of the population and 6.56% spoke Spanish .

On October 17, 1997, the Babson Park Woman's Club was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
