Lake Alfred is a city in Polk County in the US state of Florida with 5015 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Lake Alfred is directly adjacent to the towns of Auburndale and Winter Haven . The city is about 25 km northeast of Bartow and about 55 km southwest of Orlando .
history
Lake Alfred was first connected to the railroad network by the South Florida Railroad in 1884. In the following year a branch to Bartow was opened.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 5015 inhabitants were distributed over 1996 households. The population density was 394.9 inh / km². 71.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 17.5% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 6.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 16.0% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 33.9% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.6% of all households. 71.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.08.
27.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 48.9% of the population were male and 51.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 32,375, with 36.9% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 91.67% of the population, 6.61% spoke Spanish and 1.72% spoke French .

The crime rate in 2010 was 168 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There were two robberies, twelve assaults, 26 break-ins, 69 thefts and four car thefts.
