Homeland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Polk County in the US state of Florida with 366 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Homeland is about 5 km south of Bartow and about 60 km east of Tampa . US Highways 17 and 98 ( SR 35 ) cross the CDP on a shared route .

history

In 1886 the Florida Southern Railway built a railway line from Lakeland via Homeland to Punta Gorda , which was integrated into the Plant System in 1892 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 366 inhabitants were distributed over 104 households. 97.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.4% as African American and 0.8% as Indians . 0.5% said they belonged to several ethnic groups. 11.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 37.7% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 36.2% of all households. 74.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.82 people and the average family size was 3.22 people.

29.6% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 18.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 51.4% of the population were male and 48.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 32,759, with 73.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

On February 2, 2007, the Homeland School was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
