Highland City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Polk County in the US state of Florida with 10,834 residents (as of 2010).

Highland City is about 3 miles north of Bartow and about 50 miles east of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by US Highway 98 ( SR 35 ).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,834 inhabitants were distributed among 3945 households. The population density was 5159 inh. / Km². 81.0% of the population identified themselves as white, 9.5% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 4.2% as Asian Americans . 2.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 12.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 42.9% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 18.8% of all households. 80.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.88 people and the average family size was 3.16 people.

29.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 36 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 64,424, with 8.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 86.52% of the population and Spanish spoke 13.48%.
