Vincent Lamont Baker (born November 23, 1971 in Lake Wales , Florida ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1993 to 2006 . In the late 1990s, he was a star of the league with the Milwaukee Bucks and Seattle SuperSonics, and was named an NBA All-Star four times . With Team USA he was also Olympic champion in 2000 . After his performance in the new millennium declined due to alcohol problems, he ended his career as a professional in 2006.

Career

During his college time at the University of Hartford (1989-1993) Baker was honored in Edmonton in 1991 with the team of the USA U-19 world champions and by AP as an All-American .

After graduating from college, he was drafted 8th by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1993 . At the Bucks he was able to establish himself as a starter and leading player almost immediately. In his rookie season he was in all 82 games, including 62 times as a starting player, and was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . From his second year, the 1994/95 season , he was able to assert himself as the star of his team and was elected to the NBA All-Star Game , which he was able to repeat in the following three years. In his first four years he never missed a game of the Bucks before joining the Seattle SuperSonics , where he was able to build on his achievements from his time with the Bucks in the first year and was even voted into the All-NBA second team. Due to the lockout at the beginning of the 1998/99 season and bad luck with injuries, he was out of shape for the first time, but he was able to build on his old performance again for the following year, which also led to his nomination for the 2000 Olympic tournament . But he had more and more problems with changing injuries, so that he missed more and more games before his contract expired in the summer of 2002 and he was able to move to the Boston Celtics as a free agent , where he could no longer build on his old performance, but was released during the 2003/04 season due to unsuccessfulness and drinking problems, but was later signed by the New York Knicks , who passed him on to the Houston Rockets after the season . After another stint with the LA Clippers (six games) and the Minnesota Timberwolves , where he did not play in the NBA, his career ended in autumn 2006.
