Jason B. Brown

Jason Brevoort Brown (born February 26, 1839 in Dillsboro , Dearborn County , Indiana , †  March 10, 1898 in Seymour , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1895 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jason Brown attended his home public schools and Wilmington Academy . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1860, he began to work in Brownstown in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1862 and 1866 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives ; in 1870 he was a member of the State Senate . He was then between 1873 and 1875 the executive officer ( Secretary ) in the Wyoming Territory .

After returning to Indiana, he settled in Seymour. In the years 1880 to 1883 he sat again in the State Senate. In the congressional election of 1888 Brown was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Jonas G. Howard on March 4, 1889 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1895 . From 1893 he was chairman of the electoral committee.

In 1894 Brown was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the following years he practiced again as a lawyer in Seymour. He died there on March 10, 1898.
