Christiane Bettina Schwalm , b. Klopsch, (born August 21, 1990 in Marburg ) is a former German athlete who specialized in the 400-meter hurdles .

The 1.77 m tall hurdler with a competition weight of 61 kg started for the LG ovag Friedberg-Fauerbach .

career path

After graduating from the Weidigschule in Butzbach , she studied German and art history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 2015, she started a traineeship at Hessischer Rundfunk in the middle of the year to learn her dream job as a journalist .

Athletic career

Klopsch started athletics at the age of seven. She finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2007 World Athletics Championships in Ostrava . At the Junior World Athletics Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz she reached the semi-finals, and at the European Junior Athletics Championships in 2009 in Novi Sad she was fifth.

At the European Athletics U23 Championships 2011 in Ostrava, Klopsch came in sixth. A week later she won the German Championships in Kassel and stayed below the 57-second mark for the first time with 56.97 seconds.

In 2012, Klopsch finished fifth with the German 4 x 400 meter relay at the European Championships in Helsinki . In addition, it was nominated for the Olympic Games in London , but was not used there. The following year she was seventh at the Universiade in Kazan over 400 meters hurdles, but could not qualify for the World Championships in Moscow .

In 2014, Klopsch won the German championship title in the 400-meter hurdles for the second time after 2011. At the European Championships in Zurich , she barely missed the finals as the ninth fastest runner in the semi-finals. With the German 4 x 400 meter relay, she finished sixth.

In 2015 she became German vice-champion in the hall in the 400-meter run . At the beginning of June, in Regensburg, with 56.55 s, she reinforced her position as the strongest DLV athlete on the hurdles. In 2015, after 2013 and 2014, Klopsch topped the DLV best list in the 400-meter hurdles.

At the beginning of October 2015, Klopsch ended her sporting career surprisingly early in order to end the balancing act between competitive sport and internship in favor of career prospects.

Klopsch married the sprinter Florian Schwalm on September 15, 2017 and bears his surname from then on.
