Dearborn County is a county in the US state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is in Lawrenceburg .

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of Indiana, borders Ohio to the east , is about 25 miles from Kentucky to the south and covers an area of 795 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Franklin County , Butler County, Ohio, Hamilton County , Boone County , Ohio County, and Ripley County .
history
Dearborn County was formed on March 7, 1803 from parts of Clark County. It was named after Henry Dearborn , an officer in the American War of Independence and the British-American War of 1812 and later Secretary of War under Thomas Jefferson at the time the county was formed.
Lawrenceburg was chosen as the seat of the county government because it was almost centrally located in the county and the junction of two important rail lines ear that served two different regions.
Dearborn County has a National Historic Landmark , the Thomas Gaff House . A total of 25 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 1, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Dearborn County had 46,109 people in 16,832 households and 12,775 families. The population density was 58 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.06 percent white, 0.62 percent African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.68 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.58 percent of the population.
Of the 16,832 households, 37.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 62.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.6 percent were single mothers, and 24.1 percent were non-families. 20.1 percent were single households and 8.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.13.
27.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 96 men.
The median income for a household in the 48,899 USD , and the median income for a family 54,806 USD. Males had a median income of $ 38,687 versus $ 26,148 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,431. 4.8 percent of families and 6.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
