history

Vigo County was formed on January 21, 1818 from parts of Sullivan County. It was named after Francis Vigo , a hero in the American Revolutionary War .

Vigo County has a National Historic Landmark , the Eugene V. Debs Home . A total of 47 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 4, 2017).
