John T. Myers

John Thomas Myers (born February 8, 1927 in Covington , Fountain County , Indiana , † January 27, 2015 there ) was an American politician . Between 1967 and 1997 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Myers was the father-in-law of Congressman Brian D. Kerns . He attended Covington High School until 1945 and served in the US Army in 1945 and 1946 . He then studied until 1951 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute . Between 1952 and 1966, Myers worked for The Fountain Trust Co. He was also a farmer in Fountain County.

Politically, Myers joined the Republican Party . In the 1966 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded William G. Bray on January 3, 1967 . After 14 re-elections, he was able to complete a total of 15 legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1997 . During this time, among other things, the end of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, as well as the Watergate affair in 1974 . In addition, the 25th , 26th and 27th amendments to the Constitution were discussed and passed in Congress.

In 1996, Myers renounced another candidacy. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he retired.
