H. Joel Deckard

Huey Joel Deckard (born March 7, 1942 in Vandalia , Illinois , † September 6, 2016 in McKinney , Texas ) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joel Deckard attended public schools in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Between 1962 and 1967 he studied at the University of Evansville . He then served in the Indiana State National Guard until 1972. Since 1959 he has worked there and in Illinois in the radio and television industry. From 1974 to 1977 he was a board member of the Illinois-Indiana TV Association , a cable television company. Deckard also set up his own company to design and build energy efficient homes and offices based on solar energy.

Politically, Deckard joined the Republican Party . Between 1966 and 1974 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives . In the 1978 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded David L. Cornwell on January 3, 1979 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1983 . In 1982 he was not re-confirmed.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Joel Deckard moved to Florida , where he worked in Citibank's computer department in Tallahassee . At that time he joined the Reform Party of Ross Perot on. In 2000 he ran unsuccessfully for his new party for the US Senate . He only got 0.3% of the vote.
