John Hostettler (2010)

John Nathan Hostettler (born June 19, 1961 in Evansville , Indiana ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2007 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hostettler attended North Posey High School and then until 1983 the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute . Between 1985 and 1994 he worked as an engineer in a power plant for the Southern Indiana Gas & Electric Company . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1994 congressional elections , Hostettler was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Frank McCloskey on January 3, 1995 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2007 . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell .

Hostettler was a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Justice Committee . He didn't always vote with his party. In October 2002, he was one of only six Republican congressmen to speak out against the Iraq war. In the 2006 election, Hostettler was defeated by Democrat Brad Ellsworth . In December 2009 he announced his candidacy for a by-election to the US Senate . In the Republican Primary , he finished only third behind Marlin Stutzman and the victorious Dan Coats .

John Hostettler is married and has four children.
