William T. Schulte
William Theodore Schulte (born August 19, 1890 in St. Bernard , Platte County , Nebraska , † December 7, 1966 in Hammond , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1943 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Schulte attended the public schools in his home country. He later moved with his parents to Hammond, Indiana, where he attended high school and a business school. Then he worked in the theater industry with one interruption until 1932. He also worked in agriculture. Politically, Schulte was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1918 and 1922 he was a member of Hammond City Council.
In the 1932 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded John W. Boehne , who moved to the eighth district, on March 4, 1933 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1943 . It was there that most of the federal government's New Deal laws were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s . From 1941 the work of the Congress was also determined by the events of the Second World War .
In 1942 William Schulte was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he served on the War Production Board until 1944 . He then returned to Lake County , Indiana, where he initially worked in agriculture. He later worked in the auto trade in Michigan City between 1947 and 1949 . Then Schulte was employed as a sales representative for a construction machinery company. He died on December 7, 1966 in Hammond, where he was also buried.
