Michigan City is a city on the shores of Lake Michigan in the US state of Indiana in the United States of America , approximately 30 miles east of Chicago .

history
Michigan City's history begins in 1830 when Issac C. Elston acquired the first land for the new settlement. In 1836 this settlement became a city, with 1,500 residents, a post office, newspaper, church and business district.
