Charles Richard "Dick" Cathcart (* 6. November 1924 in Michigan City , Indiana ; † 8. November 1993 ) was an American Dixieland Jazz - trumpeter , singer and actor .

Life

Dick Cathcart grew up in Michigan City and was a member of Ray McKinley's orchestra at the age of 17 ; then he did his military service in World War II. After the war he played in the bands of Ray Noble , Ben Pollack , Bob Crosby and Alvino Rey ; he also worked from 1946 to 1949 as a studio musician for MGM Studios. In the 1950s he served as musical director and also as an actor for actor and producer Jack Webb , with whom he had served in a unit during World War I; Cathcart starred in an episode of the television series Police Report and in another Webb film; in 1955 Pete Kelly's Blues he portrayed a cornetist .

As a trumpeter he was a member of Lawrence Welk's orchestra from 1962 to 1968 and also participated in its television shows. As a singer he performed with the Curt Ramsey Quintet; In 1964 he married Peggy Lennon, who belonged to the Lennon Sisters ensemble. After leaving Lawrence Welk, Cathcart played in various Dixieland jazz bands until his death in 1993.
