Patrick Joseph "Pat" Toomey (born November 17, 1961 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American politician . Toomey has been a Senator for the state of Pennsylvania in the United States Senate since January 2011, where he holds the candy desk .

Life

After finishing school, Toomey studied political science at Harvard University . After graduating, he initially got a job at the Chemical Bank . He then worked for the Morgan Grenfell company from 1986 . When the company was taken over by Deutsche Bank in 1991 , Toomey Morgan left Grenfell .

From 1999 to 2005 he was a member of the United States House of Representatives for the 15th Congressional Constituency of Pennsylvania . Toomey is a member of the Republican Party . In 2004 he applied for his party's nomination for the US Senate, but was narrowly defeated in the Republican primary by long-time incumbent Arlen Specter . Six years later, however, Toomey was put up by the Republicans as a candidate for the Senate, and won the election to the US Senate in the state of Pennsylvania on November 5, 2010 . He succeeds Arlen Specter, who joined the Democrats in 2009 after there were indications that he would lose the primaries for re-nomination by his party this time against the more conservative Toomey. However, Specter was also defeated in the Democratic Primary by Congressman Joe Sestak , against whom Toomey again prevailed. Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also represent his state in the US Senate for the next six years. His new term runs until January 3, 2023.

Pat Toomey is married to Kris Toomey and has three children. He lives with his family in Zionsville , Lehigh County , Pennsylvania. Toomey is a member of the Catholic Church.

Positions

Tooney is a supporter of the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution , which allows the possession and carrying of firearms. As a supporter of the tea party movement , he is against higher taxes. However, he is ready to abolish tax advantages and close loopholes.
