history
Barberton was created in 1891 by the entrepreneur OC Barber (1841-1920), who founded the Diamond Match Company in 1880. Barber relocated his company to the newly created city, where the Diamond Match Company drew a large workforce and thus contributed to the rapid growth of the city. Parts of the factory buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as the Diamond Match Historic District in 1996, making them a listed building. Today, Diamond Brands is still the leading match maker in the United States.
