Zanesville is a city in Ohio . It is the capital of Muskingum County and has a population of 25,361. Zanesville was founded in 1797 by Ebenezer Zane , after whom the city is named, and his son-in-law John McIntire at the point where Zane's Trace and the Muskingum River cross. Zanesville was Ohio's second state capital from 1810 to 1812 .

Zanesville is located at the confluence of the Muskingum Rivers and the Licking Rivers . The urban area is 29.8 km², of which 29.1 km² are land and 0.7 km² are covered by water.

In 2000 there were 10,572 households and 6,438 families in the city. The population density was 878.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The people populated 11,662 houses.
