Benjamin B. Hinkson

Benjamin B. Hinkson (born around 1799 in Cynthiana , Kentucky ; † March 1877 in Clinton County , Ohio ) was an American lawyer and politician . He was a member of the Ohio General Assembly and was Secretary of State of Ohio from 1834 to 1836 .

Career

Benjamin B. Hinkson, son of Judge Thomas Hinkson, was born in Harrison County, Kentucky , circa 1799 . The Hinkson family then moved to Clinton County, Ohio. Nothing is known about his youth. Hinkson served as the Deputy Clerk at the Fayette County Court . After he was admitted to the bar, he began practicing in Wilmington, Clinton County in 1820 - an activity which he pursued until he was elected Secretary of State. Hinkson was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1826, 1827, 1829, 1830, and 1833 . During the session from 1833 to 1834, the Legislature elected him Secretary of State. He held the office until his resignation on February 12, 1836. Hinkson was elected President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1836 . Its borough included Clinton County, Warren County , Butler County, and Greene County . He held the post for a term of seven years. He then resumed his work as a lawyer, which he pursued until 1852. Hinkson then raised cattle on his farm. He died in March 1877 as a result of paralysis . He was 78 years old at the time of his death.
