Thaddeus Harold Brown (born January 10, 1887 in Cardington , Ohio , † February 25, 1941 in Cleveland , Ohio) was an American lawyer , officer and politician ( Republican Party ). He was a member of the Ohio General Assembly and was Secretary of State of Ohio from 1923 to 1927 .

Career

Thaddeus Harold Brown, son of Ella Dell Monroe and William Henry Brown, was born in Morrow County, Ohio in 1887 . Nothing is known about his youth. Brown studied law and was admitted to the bar. Between 1909 and 1911 he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives . He married Marie Thrailkill on November 10, 1915. During the First World War he enlisted in the US Army . He served on 13 July 1917 as a captain in the Quartermaster Corps and 11 October 1918 until his retirement from the Army as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps in Fort Sam Houston ( Texas ). In 1920 he was Commander of the American Legion in Columbus (Ohio). Brown was elected Secretary of State in 1922 and re-elected in 1924. He held the post from 1923 to 1927. He suffered a defeat in the 1926 Republican primary for governor of Ohio. Brown attended the 1928 Republican National Convention as a delegate and served as an elector in the 1928 presidential election that same year . On March 28, 1932, he was appointed to the Federal Radio Commission and served there until his appointment to the subsequent authority. On July 11, 1934, he was appointed commissioner in the newly formed Federal Communications Commission - a position which he held until June 30, 1940. Brown died in Cleveland on February 25, 1941 and was then buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was a Presbyterian , Freemason and a member of the Phi Kappa Psi , Phi Delta Phi and Shriners .
