United States Senate Select Committee on Ethics

The US Senate Select Committee on Ethics is a congressional committee of the US Senate . It is responsible for the ethics in connection with the activities of the Senators and is commonly referred to as the Senate Ethics Committee (English for: Ethics Committee of the Senate). Senate rules require that seats be evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans - regardless of the distribution of seats in the Senate. The chairman is always from the stronger group.

The forerunner of the Ethics Committee was the Senate Select Committee on Standards and Conduct , established by the 89th Congress in 1965 and given its current name by the 95th Congress in 1977.
