Jakob von Zülow

Johann Jakob Gottfried von Zülow (* May 1729 ; † 23 July 1802 in Ratibor ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Jakob came from the Mecklenburg noble family von Zülow . He was a son of the heir to Möllenbeck Christoph von Zülow († after 1775) and his wife Dorothea, born von Lützow (1688-1735) from the Dreilützow house.

Military career

Zülow began his career in 1744 as a page to King Friedrich II . In the Second Silesian War he stood at its side in the field and took part in the battles near Hohenfriedberg , Soor and Kesselsdorf . In 1745 he became a flag junior in the cuirassier regiment "von Kyau" , in 1751 he became a cornet and from 1756 he took part in the Seven Years' War. He fought in the battles at Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Leuthen , Zorndorf and attended the renewed siege of Prague. In 1757 he became a lieutenant , in 1760 a staff assistant master and in 1766 a cavalry officer and company commander in the cuirassier regiment "von Dalwig". As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . In 1783 he was promoted to major and rose to lieutenant colonel in 1790 . In 1791 he was squadron chief , in 1793 he became colonel and that same year chief of the newly established Dragoon Squadron in Old Scotland near Danzig . In 1801, Zülow was finally promoted to major general, but dimitted six months later and received supplies.

family

In 1766 he married Charlotte Karoline von Schipp (1736–1806). From this marriage there were three children:
