Coat of arms of those of Zülow

Zülow is the name of an old Mecklenburg noble family with the Zülow parent company of the same name in the Stralendorf district near Schwerin . The form of the name changed over time between Tzülowe, Czulowe, Zulo, Zulow and Zülow. Branches of the family still exist today. It is to be distinguished from the von Züle family , which is different in tribe and coat of arms , with which it was occasionally confused in historical literature.

history

Family chronicle by Georg Gustav Christian von Zülow, Kiel 1900

The family first appeared in a document in 1282 with Nikolaus auf Zülow and on March 14, 1313 with his son Antonius Tzulowe . The Zülows appeared in Pomerania as early as the 14th century . Anton's grandson Gottschalk auf Zülow (first documented mention in 1313), first documented in 1358, was Burgmann von Schwerin . Again his grandson Helmold I was the master of Zülow and Kothendorf . He was the grandfather of Helmold II (first documented mention in 1487), also a gentleman in Zülow and Kothendorf, who was married to Anna von Scharffenberg .

His wife Margarethe died in 1650. In 1652, Baltzer von Zülow married Maria Elisabeth von Hahn , a daughter of Joachim von Hahn, heir to Saltzau. Five other children came from this marriage. His son Joachim Baltzer von Zülow succeeded him as the heir to the line he had newly established on Groß Stieten.

In 1702, Major Victor von Zülow from the Electorate of Hanover acquired the Blücher estate (Mecklenburg) .

Adalbert von Zülow (* Friedrichstadt June 20, 1856; † Eulbach Castle February 1, 1936), retired royal Prussian colonel . Trivia

  • Barthold von Bülow the Younger (* 1591, † 1620) had delivered a duel on a sword with his cousin Baltzer von Zülow in 1620 in Boizenburg, Mecklenburg , in the course of which he struck down Zülow but did not kill him. At the moment of the defeat of Baltzer von Zülow, his brother intervened in the duel, brought Barthold von Bülow down and stabbed him lying on the ground.
  • In the registration book of the Dobbertin monastery there are 23 entries by daughters of the von Zülow families from Mühlenbeck, Groß Stieten, Groß Nienhagen, Tarnow, Zülow, Klein Helle, Knorrendorf and Tecklenburg from 1701 to 1910 for inclusion in the noble women's monastery there . A coat of arms is on the northern prayer box on the nun gallery in the monastery church .
