Otto Titan von Hefner (1861)

Otto Titan von Hefner (born January 18, 1827 in Munich ; † January 10, 1870 there ) was a Munich heraldist .

Life

In 1843 he finished high school in Munich with the Abitur.

Like his father Johann von Hefner (* 1799; † 1862 in Munich), Otto Titan was a historian and benefactor. The final resting place of both Hefners is the old south cemetery of Munich in a common grave site.

He was the main editor of the Studbook of the Blossoming and Dead Nobility in Germany, edited by some German nobles , which contains news about about 35,000 noble families.

This four-volume work was published by Georg Joseph Manz in Regensburg from 1860 onwards and, according to Hefner's statements, contained “all of the flourishing or dead noble families that we knew were either of German descent or were employed or wealthy in Germany .” The only exceptions were those then ruling houses.

For each family, the following are given as far as possible: home; first documentary appearance; Progenitor; Diploma awards and recipients; other important namesake; with the same name also the description of the coat of arms ; References to sources and literature.
