The nuns 'choir (also called nuns' loft or women's choir ) is a separate room in the monastery church of a women's convent that is part of the cloister .

Building design and purpose

The nuns gather in the choir to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours , Holy Mass , for devotions, for example for sacramental blessings and silent adoration. As a rule, the room is only accessible to nuns, outsiders only have access under special conditions. The nuns' choir is often located on a gallery in the west or in the transept wing of a monastery church. However, it can also be in the east, sometimes in the nave of the church, and is separated from the other church rooms by curtains, barriers or cloister bars.
