The 1996 three-cushion world championship took place from September 6th to 8th, 1996 in Hattingen ( Germany ). It was the fifth three-cushion World Cup in Germany since 1937.

history

For the last time, the BWA professionals did not take part in the World Cup. Christian Rudolph took the opportunity and won the first title for Germany in the 68-year history of the three-cushion world championship. In an extremely exciting final he prevailed in five sets against the favorite Daniel Sánchez with 3: 2 sets. In the fifth set the tension was at the boiling point when Rudolph finished the set with 15:14 points. After Otto Unshelm , August Tiedtke and Edgar Bettzieche, who won silver and bronze medals, there was a gold medal for the first time. In second place, after Johann Scherz , Gerhard Kostistansky was once again an Austrian who won a three-cushion World Cup medal. The Turk Adnan Yüksel did not show up for the tournament. Thus Koen Ceulemans won in the first round with 2-0 match points and 3-0 set points.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. It was played completely in KO mode again. With the exception of the game for third place, all games consisted of three sets of 15 points each.
