history

Antwerp City Festival Hall.jpg

For the second time after 1953 , the “ Stadfeestzaal ” hosted the World Cup.

It was in his hometown of Antwerp, of all places, that Raymond Ceulemans' winning streak broke down . Ceulemans had to win the last game of the tournament. Nobuaki Kobayashi was enough to win the world title. After Kobayashi had a clear 22 point lead, Ceulemans fought his way back and even took the lead with 59:54. Then Kobayashi knocked out the game with a series of 6 points and became the first Japanese to win the world title.

It was a real mammoth tournament with 12 participants, with everyone playing against everyone. This form of tournament should become the standard in the next few years.

mode

“Everyone against everyone” was played with 60 points.
